    Q&A with Soumya Shankar Ghosal

    • Favorite photograph: Steve McCurry’s ‚Afghan Girl‘. This is because it’s not just a photograph but a story by itself. At times a photograph can change the perspective of the world. I find similar photographs like Dorothea Lange’s „Migrant Mother“ or Nick Ut’s „Naplam Girl“ as powerful storytellers. A photograph is not a photograph until it speaks for itself.
    • Favorite inspirational quote about photography (or life in general): Photography: „If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.“ Robert Capa. Life: „Fall seven times, stand up eight.“ Japanese Proverb
    • Favorite book: „Marketing Management“* by Philip Kotler. However good a product is, it can’t survive without marketing. This book is basically the Bible of Marketing.
    • Favorite photographer: There are so many wonderful photographers but primarily Steve McCurry*. Simply because of his persistence.
    • One contemporary photographer you’ve recently discovered? Matt Stuart.
    • Favorite photography gadget? 35 mm Lens.
    • Favorite song when traveling / for the road: „Leaving on a jet plane“* by John Denver. It’s about the freedom to explore life. And Photography is about creating memories of the journey called Life.

Listen to the Gate7-Playlist on Spotify and discover the favorite songs of my podcast guests. It’s the perfect soundtrack for the road.

    • What’s in your camera bag? My Camera + cleaning cloth and an umbrella during the monsoons.
