Ugo Cei: Traveling Image Maker
In this episode I sit down with Ugo Cei to talk about travel photography. Ugo is a workshop instructor and leads photo tours around Italy and the Mediterranean Sea. He’s also the co-host of „The Traveling Image Makers“ podcast.
„You need to have experiences. Photos are not experiences. They are a means to re-live experiences. Don’t have the camera always to your eyes. Instead, learn to observe. Take in the place, walk around, talk to people without the camera.“
Ugo has always been passionate about traveling and photography. He says: “Travel photography is all about the people, the food, the architecture, and the culture that make each place a special one. It mixes elements of landscape photography, portraiture and reportage and aims to combine all of these and paint a compelling picture of what it’s like to live in a foreign country.” Over the years, Ugo has turned photography into something more than just a hobby. He leads workshops in Italy and other places around the Mediterranean Sea.
In 2015, Ugo started “The Traveling Image Makers” podcast. A weekly show, that he co-hosts with US-photographer Ralph Velasco. Together they pick the brains of famous and not-so-famous travel photographers to learn what it means to travel for the love of photography and photograph for the love of travel.
In this interview, Ugo shares his thoughts on exploring a foreign country with one’s camera and gives plenty of advice on how to take better images while traveling. Thanks a lot for listening and please enjoy my conversation with Ugo Cei.
